What kind of food for a Cat Not Eating?

Is the cat not eating? Well he's not completely a cat not eating, but he doesn't exactly eat real healthy either. He looks like a cat not eating. My cat, Carson, has a condition which has caused him to lose a considerable amount of weight. We believe he has some type of intestinal irritation though his symptoms seem very vague and varied. He goes from a cat not eating to one that is starved. He'll get ravenously hungry; jumping on counter tops, but is very picky about what he eats. Knowing that grains are not good for cats, I've tried to convert him to healthy, natural cat foods only, but he's not interested. He always goes back to the IAMS Dry Adult Cat Food. I've tried every expensive, cat food known to man including, Natural Balance, Royal Canin, Artemis, Authority, Avoderm, Blue Buffalo, By Nature, Evangers, Innova, Nature's Logic, Solid Gold, Weruva and a few I'm sure I cannot remember. He'll occasionally eat some of the canned versions of these food but only in small amounts and never enough to gain back his weight. Blood tests have ruled out any type of serious diseases, so the vet suspects this is a Cat with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He is either very hungry or he won't eat at all. When he is very hungry, though, he is still picky, which is the most frustrating thing about this condition of a cat not eating.

Grain Free Cat Food

There are other reasons for a cat not eating. Most of us agree that grain, particularly corn, is not very good for cats, particularly in large quantities. A steady diet of this kind of cat food is akin to humans eating cheetos, fritos and lays chips for the main source of their nutrition every meal. Unfortunately, Carson seems to be addicted to junk food and will eat very little else. He loved the cheap, multi-colored little friskies when we tried them, but those made him throw up colored little spots all over the carpet. His standby favorite cat food, remains IAMS whether it's healthy for him or not. I have the feeling that the grains are greatly responsible for the IBS in the first place. Being that finding better quality food that he'll actually eat seemed like a foregone conclusion, I wondered if there was something else I could try to fatten up a cat not eating enough?

Have you Tried Wellness Dry Cat Food?

So, thinking that maybe some good rich IAMS kitten food might help fatten Carson up, I went to the Local Pet Store yesterday. I picked out a small bag of the IAMS Kitten Food. As I always do, I decided to pick up a couple of different foods in the canned variety which we haven't tried before. Then, I did something stupid when I noticed the small bag of Wellness Dry Cat Food. I put the kitten food back and bought the bag of Wellness which advertised it was completely grain free. Well, Wellness is not the answer. Neither of my two cats would eat more than a couple of kibbles of the Wellness. I thought it looked and smelled rich and tasty, but the cats did not agree. They looked at it very cautiously. Carson, at least tried it, but my other younger, healthy cat Noche, wouldn't even try it. You can put Wellness on the list of the many expensive dry cat foods that my cats don't eat.

Cat Not Eating despite all of this Expensive Food?

I have a hunch. Once my cats got hooked on junk food, their hopes for eating a healthier diet were greatly diminished. My advice to first time cat owners all over the world: Read the Reviews on Cat Food and choose a healthy product from the very beginning, whether it's Wellness, Before Grain, By Nature, California Natural, choose a grain free cat food. While kittens can be picky too, they are much more likely to get adjusted and in the habit of eating high protein/fat, nutritious food if they are introduced to the right stuff in the very beginning. This website is a result of my interest in finding good, nutritious food for my cat to eat. If and when I get another dog, I will definitely do things differently. Meanwhile, I still haven't given up on Carson. He's only 9 years old, so he should have lots of good years left in him if I can get him off of the Cheetos, Lays and Frito Corn Chips. ;) Also, if you have had a similar experience with your cat, please leave us your feedback below. We can all help one another lead our cats to a healthier bowl of Cat Food! Stop asking the question, is the Cat Not Eating? A cat not eating is a cat not happy.

Bon Appetite! No more Cat Not Eating
