My Cat Will Only Eat IAMS Cat Food

Can cats diets be permanently influenced by their diet? The experience with my own cat suggests this is true. For 8 years, my cat had eaten nothing but IAMS cat food in dry. Worried that he was not getting the nutrition he deserved, I've introduced him to no less than a dozen different brands of Cat Food in the past 3 months: Artemis, Authority, Avoderm, Before Grain, Best Feline Friend, Blue Buffalo, By Nature, California Natural, Chicken Soup, Diamond, Evangers, Friskies, Innova, Natural Balance, Nature’s Logic, Purina Cat Food, Royal Canin, Science Diet, Solid Gold, Wellness Canned, Weruva. None of these hold a candle to IAMS Cat Food, in my cat's eyes. In fact, I introduced my cats to both the canned and dry cat food variety of all these premium brands. IAMS Cat Food still comes out on top. In some cases, my cats would eat them at first, then grow tired of them in a couple of days. In other cases, both cats wouldn't touch them at all. Solid Gold Cat Food, for example sat in their bowls, untouched for days! There was only one brand that both cats seemed reasonably okay with eating: Natural Balance. Even the Natural Balance, however, didn't get eaten very quickly. Also, it seemed to turn to crumbs after it got eaten down to 1/3rd of the bowl. The cats didn't like the crumbs, so I would have to re-fill it. I did have some luck with a couple of the canned foods, but only after the first try. Then, they would grow tired of that too. I've throw away more uneaten cans of cat food than I care to remember. Also, my neighbors who have two cats, now have a gift of all of our failed dry cat foods we tried. It will be interesting to see how their cats like it. All I know is that when I started putting IAMS back in my cat's bowls, I never see their dishes full anymore. They eat the IAMS Cat Food up as if they have a junk food addiction or something. If IAMS is the junk food of cat food, then that is exactly what the problem is. Just as our kids can get accustomed to a sugary junk food diet and won't eat anything else, I suppose our cats can too. It's a hard habit to break and one that I'm not so sure is even worth trying. It may just be easier and healthier for the cat in the long run, to stick with what he likes: IAMS Cat Food.

One other interesting thing about my cats love for Iams. It really doesn't matter which variety of Iams we buy. There have been times when we didn't read the package carefully and ended up buying one of their special kinds like hairball formula, or adult weight watchers, etc. Regardless of the formula, my cats just plain really like Iams Cat Food.
